In July 1983 the 157th FS “Swamp Fox” of the South Carolina ANG began receiving the new F-16 fighters. In 1995 the 157th was the first ANG unit to receive the new F-16 Block 52 aircraft directly from the factory instead of hand-me-downs. Along with the updated aircraft came a role change, they became a multi-role unit. At the same time the 157th received the HARM Targeting System making them a Wild Weasel squadron.
