DC-8-10
The Douglas DC-8-10 was the first production variant of the DC-8 jet airliner, marking Douglas Aircraft Company's entry into the jet age in 1959. Designed for medium- to long-range routes, it was powered by four Pratt & Whitney JT3C-6 turbojet engines, each producing 13,500 lbf (60 kN) of thrust. The DC-8-10 typically seated 177 passengers in a single-class layout and had a maximum takeoff weight of 120,200 kg (265,000 lbs). With a cruising speed of 876 km/h (473 knots) and a range of up to 8,200 km (4,430 nautical miles), it offered strong performance for early jet travel. Primarily used by United Airlines and Delta Air Lines, the DC-8-10 helped usher in the era of commercial jet aviation.
