      DH106

The de Havilland DH.106 Comet was the world's first commercial jet airliner, marking a revolutionary milestone in aviation when it entered service in 1952. Powered by four de Havilland Ghost 50 Mk1 turbojet engines, each producing 5,000 lbf (22 kN) of thrust, it offered jet speed and smooth, quiet flight unmatched by piston aircraft of the time. The Comet typically seated 36 to 44 passengers and had a maximum takeoff weight of 49,890 kg (110,000 lbs). With a cruising speed of 800 km/h (430 knots) and a range of 4,800 km (2,600 nautical miles), it pioneered jet travel. Despite early structural challenges, later improved versions like the Comet 4 restored confidence and paved the way for modern jet airliners.
