      VC10

The Vickers VC10 is a long-range, four-engine jet airliner developed by Vickers-Armstrongs for the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC). First introduced in 1964, the VC10 is distinguished by its four Rolls-Royce Conway bypass turbofan engines mounted at the rear of the fuselage and its T-tail configuration. Designed specifically to operate from hot, high, and short runways in the British Commonwealth, particularly in Africa and Asia, the VC10 features a powerful wing and a large clean-wing area that provided excellent takeoff and landing performance. With a seating capacity of up to 151 passengers and a range of approximately 4,700 miles, the VC10 was well-suited for BOAC's long-haul route network to Africa, Asia, and North America. The aircraft was praised by passengers for its quiet, smooth ride and spacious cabin. Several VC10s were converted for the Royal Air Force as strategic tanker and transport aircraft, serving in this role until 2013. The VC10 is remembered as one of the most elegant and technically distinguished jet airliners of the 1960s.
