      DC-8-70

The Douglas DC-8-70 series was a modernized version of the classic DC-8, introduced in the 1980s through a comprehensive re-engining and upgrade program. These aircraft were converted from earlier DC-8-60 models and powered by four CFM International CFM56-2 high-bypass turbofan engines, each producing 22,000 lbf (98 kN) of thrust, offering dramatically improved fuel efficiency, quieter operation, and reduced emissions. The DC-8-70 series retained the stretched fuselage and aerodynamics of the -60s, accommodating up to 259 passengers with a maximum takeoff weight of 158,760 kg (350,000 lbs). Cruising at 876 km/h (473 knots) with a range of about 9,630 km (5,200 nautical miles), the DC-8-70 extended the service life of the DC-8 family well into the 21st century.
