The Douglas DC-8-50 was a major refinement of the DC-8 jetliner family, introduced in 1961 with improved engines and greater efficiency. It was powered by four Pratt & Whitney JT3D turbofan engines, each producing 17,000 lbf (76 kN) of thrust, offering better fuel economy, quieter operation, and extended range compared to earlier turbojet models.
