      CV990

The Convair CV-990 Coronado was a high-speed, long-range jet airliner developed by Convair in the early 1960s as a successor to the CV-880. Designed to be the fastest subsonic airliner, it could cruise at Mach 0.91 (990 km/h or 535 knots). Powered by four General Electric CJ-805-23 turbofan engines, the CV-990 had a maximum takeoff weight of 105,240 kg (232,000 lbs) and typically seated 96 to 121 passengers. With a range of up to 6,700 km (3,600 nautical miles), it was used on medium- to long-haul routes. Despite its speed and advanced design, high operating costs limited its commercial success. Only 37 were built, but the CV-990 remains an icon of 1960s jet-era innovation and performance.
