IL14
The Ilyushin Il-14 is a twin-engine piston-powered transport aircraft developed in the Soviet Union by the Ilyushin design bureau. First introduced in 1954 as a successor to the earlier Il-12, the Il-14 was designed for both passenger and cargo operations on short- to medium-haul routes. Powered by two Shvetsov ASh-82T radial engines, the aircraft could carry up to 32 passengers or equivalent cargo over a range of approximately 1,500 km. The Il-14 was widely used by Aeroflot, the Soviet state airline, as well as by numerous Eastern Bloc airlines and military operators throughout the 1950s and 1960s. It was also produced under license in East Germany and Czechoslovakia. The Il-14 was valued for its reliability, ease of maintenance, and ability to operate from unprepared airstrips in the harsh weather conditions common across the Soviet Union. Although largely retired from commercial service by the 1970s, the Il-14 remains an important aircraft in Soviet and Eastern European aviation history.
