Northrop F-5E Tiger II 73-0847 was c/n R.1028 and was one of 58 F-5Es sent to the South Vietnamese Air Force during the Vietnam War. The first 18 F-5Es arrived in 1972 when they were diverted from delivery to Iran. The F-5E saw minimal use by the VNAF because their more advanced technology made them difficult to maintain so the F-5As saw the action. This aircraft was based with the 23rd TFW at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in 1975 then flown to Thailand and returned to the U.S.
