Luftwaffe JG 2, Helmut Wick, Battle of Britain, October 1940

Helmet Wick joined the Luftwaffe in 1936 and promoted to Lieutenant in 1938. In October 1940, at the age of 25 Wick became the youngest Luftwaffe Major and Kommodore of JG-2. On October 28, 1940 while piloting Me-109 5344 Wick claimed his 55th and 56th victories before being shot down by John Dundas just before Dundas was shot down by Rudi Pflanz. Wick managed to bail out and his chute was seen opening before hitting the English Channel but he was never seen again.
