      DC-8-50

The Douglas DC-8-50 was a major refinement of the DC-8 jetliner family, introduced in 1961 with improved engines and greater efficiency. It was powered by four Pratt & Whitney JT3D turbofan engines, each producing 17,000 lbf (76 kN) of thrust, offering better fuel economy, quieter operation, and extended range compared to earlier turbojet models. The DC-8-50 had a maximum takeoff weight of 141,500 kg (312,000 lbs) and typically seated up to 189 passengers. With a cruising speed of 876 km/h (473 knots) and a range of approximately 9,630 km (5,200 nautical miles), it was well-suited for intercontinental routes. Operated by major carriers worldwide, the DC-8-50 solidified Douglas's reputation for reliability, performance, and passenger comfort in the jet age.
