      C47

The Lockheed C-47 Skytrain (also known as the Dakota in British service) was a military transport aircraft developed from the Douglas DC-3 airliner. Introduced in the 1940s, it became one of the most iconic and reliable aircraft of World War II. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp radial engines, the C-47 had a maximum takeoff weight of 14,000 kg (31,000 lbs) and could carry up to 28 fully equipped troops or 6,000 lbs (2,700 kg) of cargo. With a cruising speed of 370 km/h (200 knots) and a range of 2,400 km (1,300 nautical miles), it was used for troop transport, cargo delivery, and paratroop drops. Its ruggedness and versatility kept it in service for decades worldwide.
