The de Havilland Canada DHC-8A, known as the Dash 8-100, is a twin-engine short takeoff and landing (STOL) turboprop airliner introduced in 1984 as the successor to the Dash 7. Designed for efficiency, reliability, and quiet operation, it is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW120A turboprop engines, each producing 1,800 shp (1,340 kW). The DHC-8A typically seats 37 passengers and has a maximum takeoff weight of 16,465 kg (36,300 lbs). With a cruising speed of 480 km/h (260 knots) and a range of 1,800 km (970 nautical miles), it excels on regional and commuter routes.
