      DC-8-30

The Douglas DC-8-30 was the first true long-range version of the DC-8 jet airliner, introduced in 1960 for intercontinental service. It was powered by four Pratt & Whitney JT4A-9 turbojet engines, each producing 16,800 lbf (74.7 kN) of thrust, providing improved high-altitude and transoceanic performance. The DC-8-30 featured strengthened wings, larger fuel tanks, and a higher maximum takeoff weight of 136,080 kg (300,000 lbs). It typically carried up to 189 passengers and cruised at 876 km/h (473 knots) with a range of about 9,630 km (5,200 nautical miles). Used by major international airlines, including KLM, Pan Am, and Air Canada, the DC-8-30 established Douglas as a leading competitor in the early era of global jet travel.
