B737-900
The Boeing 737-900 is the largest variant of the Boeing 737 Next Generation (NG) family in its initial production form, introduced in 2001 to offer maximum capacity on the highest-density short- to medium-haul routes. Featuring a fuselage stretched by eight feet compared to the 737-800, the 737-900 can carry up to 215 passengers in a high-density single-class layout. It is powered by two CFM International CFM56-7B27A turbofan engines and retains the 737 NG's proven wing, avionics, and cabin architecture. With a range of approximately 2,745 nautical miles, the 737-900 trades some range for its additional capacity relative to the -800. Alaska Airlines was the sole launch customer and operated the 737-900 as a high-density aircraft on its busy West Coast routes. While the 737-900 achieved limited orders of just 52 aircraft due to the absence of additional emergency exits required for its full passenger load, it paved the way for the enhanced 737-900ER variant, which addressed these limitations and achieved far greater commercial success.
