The Lockheed L-1049G Super Constellation is one of the most capable variants of the legendary Super Constellation family. Introduced in 1955, the L-1049G featured additional fuel capacity in large wingtip tanks, extending its range to approximately 5,000 miles and enabling truly non-stop transoceanic routes. Powered by four Wright R-3350 Turbo-Compound engines, the L-1049G offered enhanced performance and reliability compared to earlier Super Constellation models. With seating for up to 105 passengers, it provided airlines with a spacious and comfortable cabin environment typical of the Constellation family. Operators including TWA, Pan American, and Iberia used the L-1049G on their most demanding intercontinental routes. The aircraft's combination of range, capacity, and passenger comfort made it one of the premier airliners of the late 1950s. The L-1049G represented the high-water mark of the piston-engine airliner era, and while it was soon superseded by the jet age, its legacy endures as one of the most graceful and capable aircraft of its time.
