      DC-8-52

The Douglas DC-8-52 was an advanced member of the DC-8-50 series, introduced in 1962 with improved engines and aerodynamics. It was powered by four Pratt & Whitney JT3D-3B turbofan engines, each producing 18,000 lbf (80 kN) of thrust, offering better fuel efficiency, quieter operation, and superior performance over earlier models. The DC-8-52 had a maximum takeoff weight of 138,000 kg (304,000 lbs) and typically seated up to 189 passengers. With a cruising speed of 876 km/h (473 knots) and a range of approximately 9,630 km (5,200 nautical miles), it was well-suited for long-haul operations. Operated by airlines such as Pan Am, Air Canada, and Swissair, the DC-8-52 became a dependable workhorse of early jet-era intercontinental travel.
