      DC-8-54

The Douglas DC-8-54 was a long-range, high-capacity variant of the DC-8-50 series, introduced in 1963 and designed primarily for intercontinental service. It was powered by four Pratt & Whitney JT3D-3B turbofan engines, each producing 18,000 lbf (80 kN) of thrust, delivering improved fuel efficiency and quieter operation compared to earlier models. The DC-8-54 had a maximum takeoff weight of 147,420 kg (325,000 lbs) and typically seated up to 189 passengers. With a cruising speed of 876 km/h (473 knots) and a range of approximately 10,185 km (5,500 nautical miles), it was capable of true long-haul performance. Operated by airlines such as Pan Am, KLM, and Japan Airlines, the DC-8-54 became a dependable aircraft for transoceanic routes in the 1960s.
