      DC-9-51

The McDonnell Douglas DC-9-51 was the final and most advanced variant of the DC-9 series, introduced in 1975 with improved performance and capacity. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney JT8D-17 turbofan engines, each producing 16,000 lbf (71 kN) of thrust, it offered excellent reliability and fuel efficiency for short- to medium-haul operations. The DC-9-51 featured the longest fuselage of the family, measuring 40.7 meters (133 feet 6 inches), allowing seating for up to 139 passengers in a high-density layout. With a maximum takeoff weight of 54,880 kg (121,000 lbs), a cruising speed of 880 km/h (475 knots), and a range of 2,800 km (1,500 nautical miles), it provided airlines such as SAS, Finnair, and Northwest with a dependable and efficient jetliner.
