USAF 23rd TFW, 75th TFS Tiger Sharks, #72-0218, England AFB, LA, 1981

The 75th Fighter Squadron was one of the original squadrons in the 23rd Fighter Group when it took over operations of the 1st American Volunteer Group (Flying Tigers) in China during World War II. Following World War II, the 75th was activated at various times and locations throughout the world. In July 1972, the 75th rejoined its sister squadrons for the first time since 1949 when the 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing was activated at England Air Force Base LA. The 75th began operations flying the A-7 Corsair II in 1972 taking part in a variety of operational exercises both in the United States and overseas, including tactical bombing competitions against the Royal Air Force at RAF Lossiemouth, Scotland, during October 1977 and July 1978. The squadron eventually transitioned into the A-10 Thunderbolt II in the summer of 1981.
