The COMAC C919 is a narrow-body, twin-engine jet airliner developed by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) to compete with the Boeing 737 MAX and Airbus A320neo families. Designed for short- to medium-haul routes, it typically carries 158 to 168 passengers and has a range of up to 5,555 km (3,000 nmi). Powered by CFM International LEAP-1C turbofan engines, the C919 features advanced aerodynamics and lightweight composite materials to enhance fuel efficiency. It achieved Chinese type certification in 2022 and entered commercial service with China Eastern Airlines in 2023. The C919 represents a major milestone in China's goal of developing an independent commercial aviation industry and reducing reliance on Western-built airliners.
