      DC-8-20

The Douglas DC-8-20 was the second production variant of the DC-8 jet airliner, introduced in 1960 with upgraded engines and improved performance over the DC-8-10. It was powered by four Pratt & Whitney JT4A-3 turbojet engines, each producing 15,800 lbf (70 kN) of thrust, allowing for better takeoff capability and higher altitude operation. The DC-8-20 typically seated 177 passengers and had a maximum takeoff weight of 125,200 kg (276,000 lbs). With a cruising speed of 876 km/h (473 knots) and a range of approximately 8,700 km (4,700 nautical miles), it was ideal for medium- to long-haul routes. Used by airlines such as Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, the DC-8-20 advanced early jet transport technology and reliability.
