DC-8-73
The Douglas DC-8-73 was the final and most advanced variant of the DC-8 family, developed in the 1980s as part of the DC-8 Super 70 re-engining program. Converted from the DC-8-63, it was powered by four CFM International CFM56-2C5 high-bypass turbofan engines, each producing 22,000 lbf (98 kN) of thrust, which significantly reduced fuel consumption and noise. The aircraft retained the stretched fuselage and long-range capability of the DC-8-63, accommodating up to 259 passengers with a maximum takeoff weight of 158,760 kg (350,000 lbs). Cruising at 876 km/h (473 knots) with a range of approximately 10,200 km (5,500 nautical miles), the DC-8-73 offered modernized efficiency and extended the operational life of the DC-8 into the 21st century.
