      MD11

The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 is a wide-body, three-engine commercial jetliner developed as a significantly improved successor to the DC-10. First introduced in 1990, the MD-11 features a lengthened fuselage, advanced winglets, a two-crew glass cockpit, and more fuel-efficient General Electric CF6-80C2 or Pratt & Whitney PW4460 engines. With a seating capacity of up to 410 passengers in a typical two-class layout and a range of approximately 7,240 nautical miles, the MD-11 was designed for long-haul international routes. The aircraft incorporates advanced aerodynamics and winglets that significantly reduce fuel burn. Although the MD-11 faced stiff competition from Airbus and Boeing wide-body aircraft and achieved fewer passenger orders than anticipated, it found considerable success as a freighter. Airlines including Swissair, Delta, and KLM operated passenger variants, while cargo carriers such as FedEx and Lufthansa Cargo became major MD-11F operators. The MD-11 remains in widespread use as a freighter and is recognized as one of the most capable long-range cargo aircraft ever built.
