      RJ85

The Avro RJ85 is a four-engine regional jet developed by British Aerospace as part of the British Aerospace 146 / Avro RJ family. Introduced in 1993, the RJ85 is a re-engined and upgraded version of the BAe 146-200 and features AlliedSignal LF507 turbofan engines, a glass cockpit, and various systems improvements over earlier 146 variants. With a seating capacity of up to 112 passengers, the RJ85 is designed for short-haul regional operations and is particularly well suited for operations from constrained urban airports due to its very low noise signature. Its four-engine configuration allows for high-altitude operations and redundancy on demanding routes. The RJ85 was used by a range of regional and national carriers, including Lufthansa CityLine, Swissair, and various charter and government operators. Although production ended in 2003, RJ85s continue in service with several airlines and as government and executive transport aircraft. The aircraft is remembered for its quiet operation and strong performance on short, challenging runways.
