The Convair CV-340 was a twin-engine, short- to medium-range airliner developed by Convair in the early 1950s as an evolution of the CV-240 series. Designed to compete with the Douglas DC-3, it featured a stretched fuselage, pressurized cabin, and improved performance. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney R-2800-CB16 Double Wasp radial engines, each producing 2,400 hp, the CV-340 had a maximum takeoff weight of 20,865 kg (46,000 lbs) and could carry 44 passengers. With a cruising speed of 480 km/h (260 knots) and a range of approximately 2,400 km (1,300 nautical miles), it became popular with regional and domestic airlines worldwide. The CV-340's reliability and comfort established Convair as a major postwar commercial aircraft manufacturer.
