P8A
The Boeing P-8A Poseidon is a long-range, multi-mission maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare aircraft developed for the United States Navy as a replacement for the Lockheed P-3 Orion. Based on the Boeing 737-800ERX commercial airliner, the P-8A entered service with the U.S. Navy in 2013 and offers significantly improved performance, sensors, and communications capabilities compared to its predecessor. Powered by two CFM56-7B27A turbofan engines, the P-8A cruises at 490 knots and has a range of approximately 4,200 nautical miles, enabling rapid deployment to distant patrol areas. The aircraft is equipped with an advanced integrated systems suite, including high-resolution surface search radar, acoustic processing equipment, an electro-optical and infrared sensor turret, and an internal weapons bay capable of carrying torpedoes, depth charges, Harpoon missiles, and other stores. The P-8A can also deploy sonobuoys for underwater acoustic surveillance. The P-8A has been exported to several allied nations, including Australia, India, the United Kingdom, and Norway, establishing it as the preeminent maritime patrol aircraft of its generation.
