      DC-8-62

The Douglas DC-8-62 was a long-range variant of the DC-8 series, introduced in 1967 for intercontinental service. It featured a shortened fuselage compared to the DC-8-61 but incorporated aerodynamic improvements, including new wingtips and larger fuel tanks, to extend range. Powered by four Pratt & Whitney JT3D-3B turbofan engines, each producing 18,000 lbf (80 kN) of thrust, the DC-8-62 had a maximum takeoff weight of 151,950 kg (335,000 lbs) and could carry up to 189 passengers. With a cruising speed of 876 km/h (473 knots) and a range of approximately 10,200 km (5,500 nautical miles), it was ideal for long-haul international routes. Airlines such as KLM, Japan Airlines, and Air Canada operated the DC-8-62 for efficient global travel.
