      CV880

The Convair CV-880 was a narrow-body, four-engine jet airliner developed by Convair in the late 1950s to compete with the Boeing 707 and Douglas DC-8. Designed for speed, it was one of the fastest commercial jets ever built, capable of Mach 0.89 (990 km/h or 535 knots). Powered by four General Electric CJ-805-3 turbojet engines, the CV-880 had a maximum takeoff weight of 94,350 kg (208,000 lbs) and typically seated 80 to 110 passengers in a single-class configuration. With a range of 5,600 km (3,000 nautical miles), it served medium-haul routes. Although not a commercial success due to limited seating and high operating costs, the CV-880 gained fame for its performance, sleek design, and reliability.
