DC-8-21
The Douglas DC-8-21 was an improved version of the early DC-8-20 series, introduced in 1960 with upgraded engines and enhanced performance. It was powered by four Pratt & Whitney JT4A-9 turbojet engines, each producing 16,800 lbf (74.7 kN) of thrust, allowing for better climb rates and higher cruising altitudes. The DC-8-21 typically seated 177 passengers and had a maximum takeoff weight of 125,200 kg (276,000 lbs). With a cruising speed of 876 km/h (473 knots) and a range of approximately 8,700 km (4,700 nautical miles), it was suited for medium- to long-haul routes. Known for its reliability and solid performance, the DC-8-21 helped establish the DC-8 series as a key competitor in early jet-era commercial aviation.
