E3D
The Boeing E-3D Sentry AEW.1 is the Royal Air Force (RAF) variant of the E-3 AWACS aircraft, providing airborne early warning, surveillance, and command capabilities. Based on the Boeing 707-320B airframe, it is powered by four CFM International CFM56-2A turbofan engines, offering improved fuel efficiency and reduced noise compared to earlier U.S. models. The E-3D features the AN/APY-2 radar system, housed in its distinctive 30-foot (9.1-meter) rotating radome, capable of detecting and tracking hundreds of airborne and surface targets simultaneously. With a crew of up to 19, the E-3D has a maximum takeoff weight of 147,420 kg (325,000 lbs) and a range of 7,400 km (4,000 nautical miles). Serving from 1991 to 2021, it played a key role in NATO and coalition air operations.
