DC-9-10
The McDonnell Douglas DC-9-10 was the first and smallest member of the DC-9 family, introduced in 1965 as a short-haul jetliner optimized for efficiency and performance on regional routes. It was powered by two Pratt & Whitney JT8D-5 turbofan engines, each producing 12,600 lbf (56 kN) of thrust, mounted at the rear of the fuselage for reduced cabin noise. The DC-9-10 typically seated 90 passengers and had a maximum takeoff weight of 40,800 kg (90,000 lbs). With a cruising speed of 880 km/h (475 knots) and a range of about 2,000 km (1,100 nautical miles), it was ideal for short-haul operations. Its reliability and low operating costs made it popular with airlines such as Delta, TWA, and Eastern.
