      B727-100

The Boeing 727-100 is the original production variant of the Boeing 727, a narrow-body, three-engine commercial jetliner first introduced in 1964. Designed for short to medium-haul routes, the 727-100 features three Pratt & Whitney JT8D turbojet engines - one at the base of the tail and two in nacelles flanking the rear fuselage - giving the aircraft a distinctive rear-engine cluster. With a seating capacity of up to 131 passengers and a range of approximately 2,250 nautical miles, the 727-100 was ideally suited for high-frequency domestic services. It was also the first commercial aircraft certified for Category II instrument approaches, enabling operations in poor visibility conditions. Eastern Air Lines and United Air Lines were among the type's earliest and most enthusiastic customers. The 727-100's ability to operate from shorter runways with its powerful high-lift system made it a versatile performer at smaller airports. While eventually superseded by the stretched 727-200, the -100 established the 727 as one of the most capable and popular narrowbody jets of the 1960s.
