      B737-300

The Boeing 737-300 is the first variant of the Boeing 737 Classic series, introduced in 1984 as a substantially modernized successor to the 737-200. Powered by two CFM International CFM56-3 high-bypass turbofan engines, the 737-300 offered dramatically improved fuel efficiency and significantly reduced noise compared to the JT8D-powered earlier variants. With a seating capacity of up to 149 passengers and a range of approximately 1,800 nautical miles, the 737-300 was designed for the deregulated short-haul market in the United States and similar competitive environments globally. The CFM56 installation required the distinctive flattened nacelle shape that would characterize the 737 Classic and NG families. USAir and Southwest Airlines were among the largest 737-300 customers, with Southwest in particular building its entire low-cost model around the type. Over 1,100 Boeing 737-300s were delivered, and the aircraft proved highly reliable and economical in service. Many -300s have since been converted to freighter configuration and continue to serve cargo operators worldwide.
