The Boeing E-4B Advanced Airborne Command Post, also known as the "Nightwatch," is a militarized version of the Boeing 747-200 designed to serve as a National Airborne Operations Center (NAOC) for the U.S. government. Introduced in 1974, it provides command, control, and communications capabilities in the event of national emergencies, including nuclear conflict. Powered by four General Electric CF6-50E2 turbofan engines, the E-4B has a maximum takeoff weight of 374,850 kg (825,000 lbs) and a range exceeding 11,000 km (6,000 nautical miles). It can remain airborne for extended periods through aerial refueling and carries up to 112 crew members. Equipped with advanced, hardened communications and EMP protection, the E-4B ensures continuous command operations for U.S. leadership anywhere in the world.
