The Boeing EC-18 is a modified version of the Boeing 707-320 airframe used by the U.S. Air Force as a platform for various airborne command, control, and testing missions. Originally designated as C-137 Stratoliner, the EC-18 series was adapted for specialized roles, including airborne early warning, communications, and radar system testing. Powered by four Pratt & Whitney JT3D turbofan engines, it has a maximum takeoff weight of 151,950 kg (335,000 lbs) and a range of approximately 9,250 km (5,000 nautical miles). Variants such as the EC-18B and EC-18D supported programs like AWACS development and missile test telemetry. Known for its versatility and reliability, the EC-18 played a vital role in advancing airborne surveillance and communications technologies.
